The Jail Wall Disaster

Night fell all was quiteBut all hope just fell
Everyone is sleepingTo a sad crying fear
Some soon to be weepingThat no-one around be it far or near
Some never knew what happenedThroughout the sight
Others horrified at the sightSurvived that night
On a cold dark March 1943 nightCorps are found all hope drowned
Young and old were sadly killedThe city a dead sound
From a wall that tumbled all aroundFrom near and far from city and towns
Always a sight but never made a soundThey lay to rest all our ancestors who are
Until it crashed right to the groundeventually found
Emergency services rush inBetter late than never to honor the dead and the
People run to the sightbrave
Help where they can on that awful nightAnd lay them peacefully in a massive grave
They dug and they clearedNow we celebrate in sober
They carried and placedThose who rest in their graves
They ran and they screamedOn the sixtieth anniversary when we recall that
They desperately searched the scenenight
Helped with identifying items they foundNever known what was to happen
On rubble and papers all over the groundWhat may or what might
Hopeful to findIn the middle of that awful night
A man, woman or childThe bronze plaque is placed
Alive and well just with us in a site that was hellThe tragedy never forgotten.........
For all those who helped
